Stanley Lorn Harriman On 2 March 2002, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stanley Lorn Harriman was serving as the Assistant Detachment Commander for Operational Detachment Alpha 372 (ODS-372), Company A, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), during combat operations while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during Operation Anaconda, in Afghanistan. On that day, CW2 Harriman was the passenger in the front seat of a truck that was hit in the front left side by an IED. The next explosion hit directly below his seat and the shrapnel came up through the vehicle. CW2 Harriman’s exceptional courage, dedication to mission and personal sacrifice directly contributed to his men surviving this battle. CW2 Harriman’s remarkable performance and selfless commitment to his fellow comrades-in-arms, serve as the standard for others to emulate. CW2 Harriman’s courageous actions that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's third highest award for valor, the Silver Star Medal. Medals, Awards, Badges and Tabs (Partial List) Silver Star Medal Silver Star Medal Citation The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stanley Lorn Harriman, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in the face of overwhelming odds and direct hostile aggression while serving as the Assistant Detachment Commander for Operational Detachment Alpha 372 (ODS-372), Company A, 3d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne), during combat operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on 2 March 2002, during Operation ANACONDA, in Afghanistan.
