Joseph De La Houssaye was born on 9 March 1942.

On 31 January 1968, Captain Arthur Joseph De La Houssaye was serving with VMFA-323, MAG-13, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Captain De La Houssaye was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
