Edward Herbert Dawson Jr. was born on 28 September 1932, in New York, NY. He graduated from St. Paul's High School, Garden City, NY, and was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1954.

He was a Naval Aviator and Vietnam Veteran. Ed served as personal pilot to Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Elmo Zumwalt Jr.

Lieutenant Commander Edward Herbert Dawson Jr., 77, died 7 June 2010, at Anne Arundel Medical Center of natural causes. He was a resident of Crofton, MD.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Elle" Dawson, who he married in 1955; one son, Edward H. Dawson III, of Moorestown, N.J; one daughter, Debra Ardan Christian of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Ashley Valone of Ft. Myers, FL; Annelie Large of Colorado Springs, CO; Ivan Ardan of Birmingham, AL; Danielle Ardan of Colorado Springs, CO; Edward Dawson IV of Moorestown, NJ; Alexander Dawson of Moorestown, NJ; Catherine Dawson of Moorestown, NJ; and two great-grandchildren, Sierra Valnoe of Ft. Myers, FL; and Bailey Large of Colorado Springs, CO.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Tufano.
