Robert Gayle Davison was born on 18 December 1947.

On 17 December 1966, Sergeant Robert Gayle Davison was serving with H Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Sergeant Davison was declared Missing in Action. His body was later recovered and his status changed to Died While Missing. His remains were identified on 6 October 1971.
