Daniel J. Contestabile was born on 29 December 1930.

On 5 May 1968, Sergeant Daniel J. Contestabile was serving with 563rd Bakery Platoon, 80th GS Group, 1st Logistical Command, in Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Sergeant Contestabile was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
