John A. Mullen On 6 October 1944, Private John A. Mullen was serving with Company E, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army. On that day, PVT Mullen’s unit was in action against German forces in the vicinity of Rambervillers, France. PVT Mullen’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. PVT Mullen was Killed in Action on 28 November 1944 while his unit was attacking the forts north of Mutzig, France. Private Mullen's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 45th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
