Steven Wayne Faulkenburg Steven Wayne Faulkenburg worked some factory jobs after graduating from high school, but they just didn't interest him. But the U.S. Army did satisfy him and that is where he ended up spending 26 years serving his country. On 9 November 2004, Command Sergeant Major Steven Wayne Faulkenburg was serving with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the early morning hours that day, CSM Faulkenburg’s unit was engaged in combat action against enemy forces during the initial assault into Fallujah, Iraq. CSM Faulkenburg was dismounted and organizing the soldiers around him after had just finished leading a battalion of Iraqi soldiers through the breach lane. As enemy small arms fire burst out from two sides, CSM Faulkenburg issued fire commands to his gunner and, as they raced forward into the contact, he was mortally wounded. CSM Faulkenburg was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart for his actions on that date. Medals, Awards and Badges Bronze Star Medal Honors On 25 January 2005, The Faulkenburg Theater, a Morale, Welfare and Recreation movie theater facility was dedicated in memory of Command Sergeant Major Steven Wayne Faulkenburg for soldiers and all personnel at Forward Operating Base Warhorse, Iraq. Although the facility was built for movie entertainment, it can also be used for live performances, briefings or educational purposes.
