On 23 April 1971, Specialist Five Michael Lee Brummer was serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 326th Medical Battalion, 101st Airborne Division in South Vietnam.

On that day, SP5 Brummer died when the helicopter in which he was a crew member crashed. His body was recovered.
