On 22 August 1969, Warrant Officer Barrett Chamberland Brown was serving with 213th Assault Support Helicopter Company, 11th Aviation Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 12th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, in Binh Long Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Warrant Officer Brown was killed in a non-hostile related crash of the helicopter he was flying. His body was recovered.
