Daniel Scanlon Brooker Daniel Scanlon Brooker was born on 19 September 1951. On 15 November 1971, SP4 Daniel Scanlon Brooker was serving with 187th Assault Helicopter Company, 11th Aviation Battalion, 12th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam. On that day, the Crusaders were working an eight-ship mission in Cambodia. Two of the slicks were released from the flight to refuel in Tay Ninh. On the way to Tay Ninh, flying in a close staggered right formation, the trail ship impacted the main rotors of the lead ship. Post-impact gyrations severed most of the trail ship's tail boom and tore the rotor blades completely off the lead ship. The lead ship crashed, killing the entire crew which included SP4 Daniel Scanlon Brooker. The first officer on the scene reported that all that was left of the lead ship was a two foot high pile of molten metal. Brooker was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
