Robert Louis Brady

Robert Brady was born in 1922 in Brighton, MA, and raised in Upper Darby, PA, where he graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves and was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1946.
Brady served aboard the battleship USS Wyoming before attending submarine school. His submarine service included duty aboard the USS Medregal and the USS Sea Owl, where he qualified for submarine command.
He was later staff commander of Submarine Squadron 12 in the Atlantic and was Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of the USS Chopper, a submarine, and the USS Nantahala, a fleet oiler.
After retiring in 1974, Captain Brady lived in Norfolk, VA; Nags Head, NC; and Gaithersburg, MD. He was living in Annapolis when he decided to settle in Grasonville in 1985.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserves Association, Retired Officers Association and Prospect Bay Country Club. Brady was an avid golfer, gardener and sports fan.
Death and Burial
Captain Robert L. Brady died on 17 June 2010 of respiratory failure at Safe Haven Manor in Sudlersville; he was 88.
Brady was preceded in death by two sons: William M. Brady in 1988 and Robert Louis Brady III in 2004. He is buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth McNeal (Herring) Brady; two sons, John L. Brady of Arnold, MD; and Patrick H. Brady of Wanchese, NC; a daughter, Margaret B. Pascarosa of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
