On 2 February 1968, Specialist Five Albert Leon Betts was serving with 544th Signal Detachment, 362nd Signal Company, 21st Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP5 Betts was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket, mortar fire.
