Rae Arvid Bailey was born on 14 March 1952 in Clemons, NY.

On 18 October 1970, Specialist Four Rae A. Bailey was serving as a helicopter crew member with C Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Binh Thuy Province, South Vietnam.

SP4 Bailey died that day from injuries sustained when the helicopter crashed as a result of hostile fire.
