On 2 June 1968, Sergeant First Class Jose Quinata Aguon was serving with D Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade in Gia Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, he was killed in action after sustaining multiple fragmentation wounds.
