Donald Prentice Booth
Lieutenant General, U.S. Army

Donald Prentice Booth was born on 21 December 1902 in Albany, NY.

His military career began when he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1926 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Booth was an Instructor at West Point from 1935-39. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1940. Later that year, he served with the 2nd Engineers at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and was then transferred to be Assistant to the District Engineer in Seattle from 1940-42.

From 1942-44, Booth served as Director of Ports, Persian Gulf Command; he was promoted to Brigadier General in May 1944. Booth was then Chief of Staff, Persian Gulf Command from 1944-45.

After WWII, Booth's assignments included:

Commanding General, Persian Gulf Command 1953-54

Commanding General, 28th Division 1954

Commanding General, 9th Division 1954

Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff U.S. Army 1955

Assistant Chief of Staff (G1/Personnel) U.S. Army 1956-1957

Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel U.S. Army 1957 to 1958

U.S. High Commissioner, Ryukyu Islands 1 May 1958 to 12 February 1961 

Commanding General, 4th Army February 1961 to 28 February 1962

Booth retired as a Lieutenant General on 28 February 1962.

Death and Burial

General Donald Prentice Booth died on 30 October 1993 in Montecito, CA. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
