Littleton "Tony" Waller Tazewell Waller
Major General, U.S. Marine Corps

Littleton Waller Tazewell Waller was born on 26 September 1856 in York County, VA.

Waller was appointed as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps on 24 June 1880 at the age of 23 and served initial tours of successive shore duty at the Marine Barracks in Norfolk, VA, and Washington, DC.

He took part in the relief of the besieged embassies in Alexandria, Egypt, by the European Squadron in 1882. He took part or saw action in the Battle of Santiago (1898), the Peking Relief Expedition (1900), the Philippine Insurrection (1900-02), the Panama Revolt (1904), Cuba Expeditions (1906 and 1911), and the Veracruz Occupation (1914). In 1915 he commanded a force of 2000 Marines landing in Haiti to restore order in that country and supervise the election of a new government.

Waller was promoted to Brigadier General in 1916 and to Major General in 1918. At the time of his retirement in 1920, he was reported to have taken part in more actions than any other Marine officer of his period. Major General Waller lived in retirement in Philadelphia, PA, until his death.

Death and Burial

Major General Littleton Waller Tazewell Waller died on 13 July 1926 at the age of 69. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
