Peter Dumont Vroom, Jr. Peter Dumont Vroom, Jr. was born on 18 April 1842 in Trenton, NJ, the son of New Jersey Governor Peter Dumont Vroom. Vroom served as 1st Lieutenant, Adjutant in the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on 12 August 1862. He was wounded in action at Crampton's Pass, VA, on 14 September 1862. He was promoted to Major of the 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on 28 August 1863. He was then brevetted Lieutenant Colonel for gallant and meritorious service during the war on 13 March 1865. He was discharged at Natchez, MS, Circular 39 War Department, Washington, DC, on 2 August 1865 and mustered out on 24 October 1865. Vroom then accepted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd U.S. Cavalry on 9 April 1867 and remained in service until 12 April 1903. He retired with the rank of Brigadier General, Inspector General of the Army. Death and Burial Brigadier General Peter Dumont Vroom, Jr. died on 19 March 1926 in Trenton, NJ. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
