Edward H. Tarrant Edward H. Tarrant was born in 1796 in South Carolina. Tarrant was a veteran of the War of 1812 and participated in the Battle of New Orleans (1815). He was also a veteran of the 1836 Texas War for Independence, Commander of the 1837 Northwest Frontier Rangers, and General of Militia at the 1841 Indian Battle of Village Creek. Tarrant County, TX, was named for him when it was created in 1849. Death and Burial General Edward H. Tarrant died on 2 August 1858 at Fort Belknap in Tarrant County, TX. He is buried at Pioneers Rest Cemetery in Fort Worth, TX; a historical marker outside the gates of the cemetery provides a brief overview of General Tarrant's life. |
