Orville Alfred "Tubby" Ralston Orville Alfred Ralston was born on 9 September 1894 in Weeping Water, NE. Ralston joined the Royal Air Force in Canada and later flew with the 148th Aero Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Service. Flying SE5a and Sopwith Camel aircraft, he earned five victories against enemy aircraft in World War I, becoming an Ace. He scored two victories flying with the 85th Squadron in legendary "ace" Edward "Mick" Mannock's flight. By September 1918, he had been reassigned to the 148th Aero Squadron and subsequently scored three more victories. Ralston was recalled into the Army Air Forces for World War II and was killed in the crash of a B-17 aircraft near Musselshell, MT. Death and Burial Major Orville Alfred Ralston died on 30 December 1942 in Musselshell, MT. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wood Lake, NE. |
