Biography: | ||||
Daniel Todd Patterson Daniel Todd Patterson was born on 6 March 1786 in Long Island, NY. Patterson commanded U.S. Naval forces around New Orleans during the War of 1812. In September 1814, he refused a request by General Andrew Jackson to send his forces from New Orleans to Mobile. This decision was a fateful one, for in January 1815 the presence and action by Patterson's gunboats in conjunction with Jackson's ground forces at the Battle of New Orleans helped secure an American victory. Death and Burial Commodore Daniel Todd Patterson died on 25 August 1839. He is buried at the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. |
