John Marshall Gamble John Marshall Gamble was born on 12 March 1790. During the War of 1812, Gamble served with Commodore David D. Porter, and was given command of a captured British ship. While in command, he captured another British war vessel, making him the first U.S. Marine Corps officer to ever do so. He served in the Marines until his retirement at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1834. Death and Burial Lieutenant Colonel John Marshall Gamble died on 11 September 1836. He is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. |
