Daniel Vincent Gallery Daniel Vincent Gallery was born on 10 July 1901 in Chicago, IL. Gallery began his military career when he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy on 3 June 1920. During World War II, while Captain in command of the USS Guadalcanal in June 1944, he captured the German submarine U-505 off Cape Blanco, French West Africa. This was the first boarding and capture at sea of an enemy naval vessel by the U.S. Navy since 1815. He retired as a Rear Admiral in 1960. Gallery wrote 8 books on U.S. Navy life during the 1940s to 1960s. Death and Burial Rear Admiral Daniel Vincent Gallery died on 16 January 1977. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
