Kathryn George Frost Major General, U.S. Army Kathryn George was born on 7 November 1948 in Latta, SC. Frost earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1970 before entering the U.S. Army. While in the Army, she earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Wayne State University. Frost's military career included a four-year assignment as the Adjutant General of the U.S. Army, with concurrent assignment as the Commanding General, Physical Disability Agency, and Executive Director, Military Postal Service Agency, and as the Commander, Eastern Sector, U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command. She served on the staff of then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell during the 1991 Gulf War and as a White House aide under the first Bush and Reagan administrations. In 1998, she married Congressman Martin Frost of Texas in the U.S. Capitol Building. She served as Commander of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, operating military commissaries, base and post exchanges throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia, including the Middle East countries of Afghanistan and Iraq, from August 2002 to April 2005. Shortly before assuming the post at AAFES, Frost was diagnosed with breast cancer. She publicly stated that her military training gave her an advantage in dealing with cancer. Frost was the highest ranking woman serving in the U.S. Army when she retired in 2005 following a 31-year military career. Medals and Awards Army Distinguished Service Medal Death and Burial Major General Kathryn George Frost died on 18 August 2006 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, following a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57. She is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
