John Walker Hendrix John Walker Hendrix was born on 22 September 1942, in Bulloch County, GA. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. As a member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program, he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army after graduation. He earned a Master of Art's degree in History in 1978 from Middle Tennessee State University and is also a graduate of both the U.S. Army War College and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He completed several NATO assignments during the Cold War, and served two tours of duty as a rifle company commander in the Republic of Vietnam. He also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army; Assistant Division Commander, 1st Armored Division during the Persian Gulf War; Executive Officer to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Belgium; and as Assistant Commandant, U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, GA. His other assignments include serving as Commanding General of V Corps (while in command he served as Commanding General of Task Force Hawk); Commanding General 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA; and Commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry Center at Fort Benning. His final assignment was as Commander, U.S. Army Forces Command from 1999 to 2001. General John Walker Hendrix retired from active service with the Army in 2001. Medals, Awards. He was National Chairman of the Military Officers Association of America. |
