On 24 April 1966, Sergeant Robert Leland Adams was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, in South Vietnam.

On that day, SGT Adams was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
