Charles Frederick Abene
Captain, U.S. Marine Corps

On 19 November 1968, First Lieutenant Charles Frederick Abene was serving with Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Force Service Regiment, Force Logistical Command, III Marine Amphibious Force in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, 1Lt Abene was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.

He received a posthumous promotion to Captain.

Abene had served as an enlisted man in the Korean War and was deployed to Vietnam shortly after receiving his commission.
