Private First Class Johnson was a member of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On 10 November 1953, he died of Hemorrhagic fever.

Johnson was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
