Lloyd Mark Bucher Lloyd Mark Bucher was born on 1 September 1927 in Pocatello, ID. Bucher was the Commanding Officer of the USS Pueblo, a U.S. Navy ship that was monitoring communist activities in international waters off the coast of North Korea. On 23 January 1968, the ship was attacked by North Korean torpedo boats. One sailor was killed and 82, including Commander Bucher were captured. They were beaten and tortured for 11 months until they were finally released on 23 December 1968. The ship was not returned. In 1989, after years of denials, the Pentagon finally gave Prisoner of War medals to the crewmen. Death and Burial Commander Lloyd Mark Bucher died on 28 January 2004 in Poway, CA. He is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. |
