Private First Class Borden was a member of Company C, 65th Engineer Combat Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. On 27 April 1953, he was returning to his company area Taeduk-pong, North Korea, when the sub-machine gun he was carrying accidentally discharged killing him.

Borden was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
