Sergeant Altieri was a telephone lineman in Company B, 101st Signal Battalion, U.S. Army. On 7 August 1951, while crossing the Pukham-Gang River, he fell in and drowned.

Altieri was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
