Roger Ronald Staats was born on 9 May 1941.

Military Service

Roger Staats served his country for 23 years in the U. S. Air Force. He retired as a Technical Sergeant at Luke Air Force Base in 1985.

Post-Military Life

Roger made Peoria, AZ, his home after he retired. His son, 30-year-old U.S. Army Staff Sergeant David Roger Staats of Glendale, AZ, was among three soldiers who died on 16 December 2006 in a roadside bombing attack north of Baghdad, Iraq. 

Death and Burial

Roger Ronald Staats was beaten to death while out riding his bicycle on 28 January 2007, only 43 days after his son was killed in Iraq. He was courageous enough to intervene in a domestic violence altercation along a street when he stopped to help a young girl. He was 65.

Roger is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Maricopa County, AZ, in Section 54, Site 2123.
