Charles Herbert Andrews Charles Herbert Andrews was born on 14 May 1908 in New Haven, CT. Andrews graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1930 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy. He then attended Submarine School at New London, CT. During World War II, he was the Captain of the submarine USS Gurnard (SS-254). On six war patrols he and his crew sunk 11 ships for a total of 71,500 tons. Prior to his retirement from the Navy, Andrews was promoted to Rear Admiral. Medals and Awards Badges Submarine Warfare Insignia Honors He was placed on the Roll of Honor at the Submarine Base, Pearl Harbor. Death and Burial Rear Admiral Charles Herbert Andrews died on 7 December 1981 in San Diego, CA. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
