John Benjamin Anderson John Benjamin Anderson was born on 10 March 1891 in Waxahachie, IA. He attended the U.S. Military Academy and graduated with the Class of 1914. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery. Anderson served in France during World War I. He graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1925 and from the Army War College in 1928. From 1928-32 he served as a member of the War Department General Staff. He was assigned to the office of the Chief of Field Artillery during 1938-41. Anderson was promoted to Brigadier General in October 1941 and to Major General in August 1942. He was the Commanding General of 102nd Infantry Division from September 1942-December 1943 and was Commanding General of XVI Corps from December 1943-October 1945. Major General Anderson retired from the Army in 1946. Medals and Awards Distinguished Service Medal Death and Burial Major General John Benjamin Anderson died on 1 September 1976. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
