Robert S. Jacoby On 2 August 1943, Technician Fourth Grade Robert S. Jacoby was serving as a Medical Aidman with the Medical Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army. On that day, TEC 4 Jacoby’s unit was in action against German forces during 3rd Army Commanding General LTG George S. Patton's race to capture Messina, Sicily. TEC 4 Jacoby’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day, at the cost of his life, earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. Medals, Awards and Badges Distinguished Service Cross Distinguished Service Cross Citation (Synopsis) Technician Fourth Class Robert S. Jacoby (ASN: 36003782), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 2 August 1943. Technician Fourth Class Jacoby's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
