Joseph Francis Scott Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Corporal Joseph Francis Scott (4 June 1866 - 28 February 1941) was a U.S. Marine who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Joseph Francis Scott was born on 4 June 1866 in Boston, MA. After entering the Marine Corps in 1888, he was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War aboard the USS Nashville. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Marine Corps Citation: On board the USS Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Scott displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action. Death and Burial Corporal Joseph Francis Scott died on 28 February 1941. He is buried at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, MA, at the Mayflower Path, Lot 4716B. |
