Henry Hendrickson Seaman, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Seaman Henry "Harry" Hendrickson (12 March 1862 - 28 February 1912) was a U.S. Navy sailor who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Henry Hendrickson was born on 12 March 1862 in Germany. After entering the U.S. Navy, he was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War aboard the USS Marblehead. On 11 May 1898, the Marblehead was given the task of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba. His actions during the operation earned him the Medal of Honor. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Hendrickson displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action. Death and Burial Seaman Henry "Harry" Hendrickson died in Boston, MA, on 28 February 1912. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mattapan, MA, in the Elm Grove Section, Lot 4105. |
