Biography:

Royce Allison Drake married Evelyn Clark Ostrom and they had two children.

Colonel Drake, Commanding Officer, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, was killed in action during the first night ashore when his regiment made its attack on Leyte.

Medals and Awards

He received the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action, and the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States, as Commanding Officer, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division during the liberation of the Philippines in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II.

Honors

Camp Drake, Japan, home of the 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters and Division Special Troops during the occupation of Japan, was named in honor of Colonel Royce A. Drake.
