William H. Harwell
Sergeant, U.S. Army

Sergeant William H. Harwell served in Company M, 3rd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, Third Army under Lieutenant General George Patton. He served in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany, was at the Battle of Metz, and was with them when Patton ordered the 5th Infantry Division to make the famous 90-degree turn in 24 hours, to rush to the aid of the surrounded allies during the Battle of the Bulge.

He was killed in action on 13 February 1945 while the 5th Infantry Division was headed northeast of the Sauer, where it eventually smashed through the Siegfried Line.
