Henry V. Baushausen
Captain, U.S. Army

On 11 November 1944, Captain Henry V. Baushausen was serving with 3rd Battalion, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, Third U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations.

On that day, CPT Baushausen's unit was in action against German forces near Malling, Germany along the Moselle River. The 359th was on the left flank and encountering heavy resistance and fierce enemy shelling. Despite this, the 359th Infantry Regiment succeeded in retaking almost all the ground it lost in the previous day's counterattack. CPT Baushausen's courageous actions and extraordinary heroism, at the cost of his life, earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.

Distinguished Service Cross Citation (Synopsis)

Captain (Infantry) Henry V. Baushausen (ASN: 0-409715), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 3d Battalion, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 11 November 1944. Captain Baushausen's outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 90th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
