David Zabriskie Jr.
Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy

United States Navy lieutenant commander who was lost at sea while commanding USS Herring (SS-233) off the coast of Matua Island, northwest of Japan. On May 31, 1944, Herring rendezvoused with USS Barb (SS-220) and was never seen or heard from again. Her sinking was verified by Japanese records, and the wreck was discovered in 2016.
