Leroy Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Young, was drafted into the U.S. Navy during his junior year at Sharon and Bath High School in Granger, OH. He left the U.S. on 4 January 1944, and had seen action in Saipan and Guam. He was a member of the Navy's Landing Craft Infantry.

The Navy Department's message to his parents stated that it is presumed his remains were buried at sea.
