Biography:

Jacob Carl Leicht
Corporal, United States Marine Corps

United States Marine Corps corporal who became the 1,000th American service member killed in Afghanistan when he was killed by a land mine in Helmand, Afghanistan. He was wounded in 2007 while in Iraq when the humvee that he was riding in ran over a land mine. He spent several months and endured 18 surgeries to save his leg. Following two years of intensive rehabilitation, he was deemed fit for full duty and he returned to active duty.
