Jonathan P. Brostrom A 2002 graduate of Damien Memorial School, Jonathan P. Brostrom received a 4-year ROTC scholarship at the University of Hawaii, graduating in 2006. His father, David Brostrom, is a retired Army colonel. On 13 July 2008, then-First Lieutenant Jonathan P. Brostrom was serving as a Platoon Leader in Company C, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On that day, 1LT Brostrom's efforts kept the enemy from overwhelming his outpost position while additional reinforcements arrived and eventually repelled the enemy attack. His selfless actions saved the lives of his men and held the ground from enemy forces. 1LT Brostrom’s courageous actions that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's third highest award for valor, the Silver Star Medal. Medals, Awards and Badges (Partial List) Silver Star Medal Silver Star Medal Citation The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Jonathan P. Brostrom, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy on 13 July 2008, while serving as a Platoon Leader in Company C, 2d Battalion (Airborne), 503d Parachute Infantry Regiment, 173d Airborne Brigade, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan. First Lieutenant Brostrom's incredible valor, competence, and unstoppable drive to aid his men in need took the highest level of bravery and courage. First Lieutenant Brostrom's efforts kept the enemy from overwhelming the outpost position in time for additional reinforcements, eventually repelling the enemy attack. His actions, at the cost of his own life, saved the lives of his men and held the ground from enemy forces. First Lieutenant Brostrom's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 173d Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and the United States Army. Burial First Lieutenant Jonathan P.
