United States Navy petty officer third class who was killed at sea while serving on board USS Franklin (CV-13). While maneuvering within 50 miles of the Japanese mainland, Franklin was attacked by Japanese bombers, starting a major fire on the flight deck. Over 700 of the ship's crew were killed.
