Abraham Matza On 6 January 1945, Private First Class Abraham Matza was serving with the 289th Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division, Ninth U.S. Army. On that day, PFC Matza’s unit was in action against German forces at Grandmenil, Belgium. PFC Matza’s courageous actions, devotion to duty, and extraordinary heroism that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.
