Jerald Steven DeLong

Jerald Steven DeLong was born on 5 June 1950 in Waukon, IA, the son of LeLand P. and Theodora Ferring DeLong. He attended the first three grades of school in Lansing. He was a 1968 graduate of DeSoto High School and active in wrestling, FFA and 4-H.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1969 and received his Basic and Advanced Individual Training in North Carolina. He was serving in Germany when he volunteered for service in Vietnam.
On 12 October 1970, Private First Class Jerald Steven DeLong was serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, AMERICAL Division, in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam.
On that day, PFC DeLong was killed when he sustained wounds from an explosive device. His body was recovered. DeLong was posthumously promoted to Corporal.
