Gordon Earl DeGarmo was born on 22 June 1948.

On 27 November 1968, First Lieutenant Gordon Earl DeGarmo was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, 1LT DeGarmo was killed in action when he sustained wounds from an explosive device. His body was recovered.
