Michael John Cromie was born on 6 April 1948.

On 18 November 1968, Private First Class Michael John Cromie was serving with 1st Platoon, D Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Cromie was killed when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
