On 28 August 1968, Specialist Four Bobby Cecil Cover was serving with A Company, 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, in Long An Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Cover was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
