Lance Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps

Michael Joseph Courtney was born on 23 July 1951 and was the son of John H. and Lois Courtney.

On 29 August 1970, Lance Corporal Michael Joseph Courtney was serving with CAP 2-3-5, CACO 2-3, 2nd CAG, Combined Action, III Marine Amphibious Force in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Lance Corporal Courtney was killed in the village of Vin Dign at a place called Sonny's, when he sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered.
